Tone Van Zee dies at 72 in Iowa City funeral set
Anto nie A Tone Van Zee born October 4, 1892 at Pella Iowa was one of ten children of Gerrit P and Aultje De Kok Van Zee. He married Effie Kuiken February 4, 1914 and had six children. Survived by wife Effie of Pella two sons Gerrit and three daughters Ruth Medema Faye Horpestad and Shirley Walster eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild two sisters and many friends. He died October 14 1964 in Iowa City at age 72. Services were October 17 1964 at 1 30 pm at Second Christian Reformed Church Pella with Rev Ralph Bos officiating. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery Pella with Pella Garden Chapel in charge.

Pella High Wins Homecoming Over Pleasantville 32 13
Ten years ago Pella High celebrated homecoming by defeating Pleasantville 32 to 13. A Blom to Bogaard pass opened scoring, followed by Blom finishing a 48 yard drive. Pleasantville replied with a 27 yard TD by Blodgett and Calhoun extra point. The game featured a Tulip Crest flag unveiling and district Federated Club Women appointment later in October.

Skelly Oil Co hosted a Thursday October 5 dinner honoring Pella Fire Department and John W. Vos for extinguishing a Skelly transport fire on Main Street September 6. Vos aided the trapped driver. the event celebrated firemen’s brave response. Horse and Mule Breeders Assoc and Chamber of Commerce praised a Waechter Lumber yard show with 100 animals. Simpson edged Central with a late Liberty play for six-point fourth-quarter margin.

50 Years Ago Baby Health Test a Big Success in Pella
Fifty years ago the baby health contest in Pella drew 43 entries with several younger children examined by physicians. Ray Vander Linden won the sweepstakes with a score of 97.7 percent. Reverend William J. Coulston, D D, was named pastor elect of Pella’s Baptist church and would move from Boone to Pella in November. Puritan Drug Co posted World Series results in their store for local baseball fans. The city council agreed to sell the hand fire engine to Longford Kansas for $100. Wedding notices from October 15, 1914 included Helen Hunt and E L Johnson of Fort Dodge and Marie Vander Beek and John Shinn of Knoxville.
