Colfax Iowa October 12 Lewis Hurst twenty three of Pittsfield Illinois was crushed to death when a Swift and Co truck rolled over him as he removed a block from the rear wheel on a hill. Coroner Dr E A McMurray said chest injuries caused death.

Jury blames trucker for Oliver death in Iowa crash
Ottumwa coroner’s jury ruled William Oliver of Albia died from a truck collision on September 21 caused by Earl Dale of Chillicothe. Inquest led by John Drake noted near head-on impact on federal highway No. 34 near Christiansburg church curve, eleven miles west of Ottumwa. Witnesses included Oliver family members and Dale, plus Ottumwa residents and law officers.

Former slave Mrs. Indiana Lee Thomas dies at 94 in Albia
Funeral services were held at Albia A M E church for Mrs. Indiana Lee Thomas, a former slave and Monroe County's long-time resident. She died Thursday at 3 p.m., bedfast three days. Burial was in Oak View cemetery. Born January 2, 1840 in Baltimore, she was trained as a nurse by her enslaving family and later married Rev. Cornelius Thomas. The couple moved to Mt. Pleasant after emancipation. Her son John and family lived with her.

The Rev Mr Thomas and Mrs Thomas moved to Miller Ridge southeast of Albia and later settled here where Mrs Thomas had lived fifty three years. The Rev Mr Thomas died fifteen years ago. Mrs Thomas was active in the A M E church through slavery and freedom. Surviving are three sons Britton Pearl and John of Albia, eighteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Farmers May Soon Have Feed Loans For Young Stock
Beginning November 1, 1934 farmers and stockmen in primary drought areas may receive feed loan allowances for hefier calves ewe lambs and female kids in addition to mature stock. Loans limited to breeding stock and not excessive compared with April 1 1934 breeding stock. Emergency loans disbursed from drought relief funds in monthly allotments. Applications handled by local crop and feed loan committees across drought counties. Since July over 134000 loans and advances totaling more than 10000000 dollars have been issued.
Minnesota View On Iowa Sales Tax
Fairmont Sentinel notes Iowa’s sales tax has cooled citizen grumbling as revenue rises. It claims no property tax this year will be needed for state government and praises Iowa for adopting a replacement tax. The piece predicts Iowa residents will boast about the sales tax’s success.
