Newton man undergoes brain surgery at Des Moines hospital
Verlan Slycord of Newton underwent surgery Wednesday at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines to remove a blood clot from the brain. Surgeons report the operation was successful and hopes for complete recovery are very satisfactory. The illness had been misattributed to multiple sclerosis for months before surgery clarified the condition. Mrs. Dick Vander Leest of Des Moines, formerly a Pella resident, is mentioned in the update.
