Volunteer Firemen Protect Fella Area in Pella Township
Pella and Lake Prairie Township rely on 16 staffed volunteers to handle fires and rescues with six machines including three rural trucks, two city pumpers, and a joint emergency unit. They maintain a rescue boat and serve parts of nearby townships with a flat fee for out of area calls. Training, regular drills, and mutual aid with Oskaloosa are common, but finding volunteers remains tough as employers resist time off for alarms.
