Richard Wichhart obituary from Creston veteran and restaurateur
Richard Wichhart, 76, retired Creston restaurant operator, died at Des Moines Veterans Hospital on September 24, 1962 after a three year illness. He lived at 101 Broad Street and funeral services were held September 26 at Coens Home for Funerals. Burial was at Graceland Cemetery. Born June 24, 1886 in Osterberg, Holland, he came to the United States at age five. He married Pearl Cat-Tett in Lenox on March 18, 1920. Surviving are sons Dale of Colorado Springs, Kenneth of Ogallala, Don of Creston, sister Mrs. P. J. Van Gorp of Grand Rapids, six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He earlier lived in Lenox and Pella before moving to Creston in 1930, ran a restaurant for years, and served in World War I with the 313th Engineers. He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Veterans of World War I.

Lieutenant Colonel Carl Vander Ploeg, ex Brooke Army Medical Center resident, returns as Chief of Dermatology Service. He led dermatology at Heidelberg Army Hospital and Madigan General Hospital, studied at Ursinus and Iowa, and served in the Far East and Brooke. He lives in San Antonio with wife Miriam Vieth and two sons Douglas and Robert.
