Kellogg finished laying about 500 tons of gravel on Main Haw Water and part of Second streets to four inch depth using four trucks. Gravel also spread on the Kellogg Kilduff road. A runaway team damaged Steenhoek’s car near the depot. horses were cut and uninjured overall.
Monroe Mirror reports Mrs. Harry Nelson of Newton, widow of H. E. Nelson, receiving an anonymous blackmail threat to drop 5000 dollars at a Grinnell spot. County officers, aided by an Indian guide, guard her residence and children as federal, state, and county officials pursue the case, with a suspected amateur gang.
Prairie City News reports a runaway team led by Guy Steen hoek crashed near the east depot side after starting to run from the Co-ops. Jim Timmons, driving near the yard behind the Co-ops, was stepping into a building when the collision occurred. a horse suffered a severe head injury and the automobile was badly wrecked.
Humeston town council passed an ordinance requiring future filling stations to meet location rules and curb pumps with a five dollar quarterly tax per pump. The measure aims to shift tax burden to wholesale companies and curb station proliferation by requiring consent from three fourths of nearby resident property owners.
Bids for a new building at the Mahaska County farm were opened Wednesday afternoon at the court. The New Sharon Star reports the event, noting the bidding process and expected construction at the county farm facilities.

Richard Olinger aged 14, adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. J W Olinger, was killed Saturday evening in a hit and run on highway No 2 east of Ainsworth while fishing with Floyd McFarland. The car dragged the body about 40 feet after striking him at the central bridge. Floyd alerted aid. Olinger died at Washington county hospital. A car and hooch were found nearby. license tags missing.
Harold V. Clay of Rutland was arrested at Tracy for stealing chickens from Rev. Forrest Moore. Allen Moore heard the theft and saw two trips to the hen house about 1.30 am. County Attorney said the case would be dismissed for lack of evidence.
