Numerous local families welcomed relatives from Des Moines, Knoxville, Omaha, and beyond during Thanksgiving weekend. The roster included Elsie Van Zanie, Sam Miller and many Van Gorp, Vander Putte, Den Adel, and Van Beek relatives visiting across Pella and nearby towns. Birthday celebrations and church receptions were noted, with travel to Wisconsin and Michigan mentioned.
A local notice lists multiple admissions and dismissals in area households. Marie Kommer of Pella and Marion Pol of Otley are admitted while Lyle Schulz of Knoxville and Susan Wickham of Quer are named among others. Dismissals include Mrs Richend B Hite of Pella and Mrs Robert Miller of Knoxville with dates in late November. An infant son of a local couple is also noted.
County extension director Richard Freeman and plant pathologist Gayle Wolf advise fall garden cleanup to curb overwintering disease organisms and weeds. They urge thorough plowing or burning of annual growth and note some diseases persist in dead plant material, while cleanups also remove reseedings.
Wilfred Roose of Monroe was dismissed Tuesday Nov 23. Mrs Henry A Roose of Pella was admitted Sunday Nov 26 to Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. Mrs J T Van Zante returned from General Hospital in Ottumwa last Saturday after three weeks. Gary Steenberg, son of Mr and Mrs Clayton Steenberg, has returned to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines for more tests.

Clarence Everett of Neer Nodaway dug an eight pound turnip and said he planted mixed ruta bag seed with turnip seed. He reported both vegetables were exceptionally large and high quality.
Singing star Dorothy Collins presents Lola Lucas a sash as the Poster Child of the Muscular Dystrophy Associations of America. Miss Collins backs the March for Muscular Dystrophy as Honorary Campaign Chairman in Long Island.
