Life Ends for Howard Buitenwerf 33 Cancer Victim
Howard W Buitenwerf aged 33 died Tuesday morning at Veterans Hospital Des Moines after weeks as a cancer patient. Services set for 1 30 pm at Second Christian Reformed with a family prayer at Van Dyk Duven Funeral Home. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery Pella. He was born Sept 29 1928 in Sully son of Albert and Susie Monma Buitenwerf and married Cornelia Van Wyngarden Aug 17 1949 at Pella with two children Alan Wayne and Craig Steven. He served in the army 1951 1955 and worked at Steenhoek Auto Supply in Pella before health failed. Surviving wife two children mother two sisters Treva Dieleman New Sharon and Grace Bandstra Otley. He belonged to Second Reformed church American Legion and helped direct Perla Christian grade school.

First Fall-out Shelter Display Seen in Pella

Specialist Four Robert L. Ryken 25 completed a five week engineer observation and utility airplane maintenance course at The Aviation School Fort Rucker Ala on October 27. Mayor Tysseling Re-Elected by Wide Margin
Mayor Tysseling and most incumbents won re election in Pella for the next two years. Van Gorp led Second Ward with 271 votes while Leydens had 217. Incumbent Joe Stientjes won the alderman at large with 125 votes. Armour Boot beat Bert Hoksbergen 674 to 610. Other wards ran unopposed. city treasurer Frank DeWit and park commissioner Herb Vander Waal were unopposed. About 1,184 votes were cast.

Herbert Buerkens Injured in Crash Near Newton
Mr and Mrs Herbert Buerkens of Marshalltown were in a Sunday car crash on Highway 14 about 40 miles north of Newton. Their car was struck by another vehicle after a sudden turn by a car ahead, then hit a third car driven by Claude Sheldon of Marshalltown. Mrs Euretta Eyman 71 riding with Sheldon and Sheldon were seriously injured and taken to Skiff Hospital. the Buerkenses were treated and released.
