A large dairy barn on the Frank Hettinga farm in Monroe was gutted by a fire between 9:30 and 10:30 p m with origin undetermined. The blaze destroyed a new bulk milk tank and milking equipment along with two calves and some pigs. Neighbors aided in preparing a milking shed while fire crews prevented spread to other buildings.
Carroll Phifer a Monroe high school senior has enlisted in the Navy for four years. Other seniors Monte Juett and Larry Aulbers along with Bill Graham Don Wheeler and Tom Nimmo have enlisted in the Army. Dale Dixon plans to attend Central College Barbara Reese will study at Simpson College Mary Brong plans Cedarville College Ohio Becky Reetz will attend Grinnell College Kristy has yet to be determined.

Mrs. Morgan dies at 83. Funeral set May 15 for Mrs. Charles Morgan of Prairie City with eight children surviving. Other items note family gatherings, hospitalizations, births, and social visits across Monroe, Pleasantville, Pella, and Des Moines, including Tangible references to Vander Hart families, Sayres, and Kingery births.

The state led with 11 364 640 dollars in April and 61 529 814 dollars for four months, over 1 500 000 higher than 1960. A lightning bolt struck the center of a large Louis Hart farm barn near Toledo, splitting the roof and running down through the structure to the south side. No fire was reported.
Pleasantville will receive federal aid for comprehensive growth and development planning. Congressman Neal Smith announced funds totaling about 1850 dollars from the Urban Renewal Administration to be matched by 850 city dollars and 1000 state dollars under a Housing Act program aiding communities under 50 000 population and areas with accelerated growth.
