Neighbor Help On Roose Farm Near Peoria
On April 29 neighbors aided John C. Roose’s farm four miles south of Tainter and five miles southeast of Peoria as Mrs Roose’s illness grew. About 24 acres of corn land were prepared with 10 tractors on May 5 finishing by 4 pm, while others provided coffee and cookies. Roose, a seven year Mahaska Soil District cooperator, thanked relatives and neighbors for the support as he tended his wife and farm.

Conservation practices advance in Iowa sub-watersheds
The article notes progress in soil conservation with 4.98 miles of diversion terrace and 85 miles of standard terraces. James Paul, assistant commissioner, helped organize two sub watershed groups. In 1951 through the ASC office, 2500 dollars of ACP funds supported waterway development terraces ponds and structures. The State Conservation Commission supplied seed for sod banks and a terracing machine managed by the Speas brothers. A technician spends part time in the area and a 1952 tri-county field day on Donald Runner farm spurred district plans.
