Tourist Camp Abandoned In Pella West Market Square

The Pella chamber of commerce voted Thursday evening to abandon the west market square tourist camp after years of support and high costs. The park commission budgeted repairs last year after equipment loss, while the Women’s Federated Club sought management of the site as a playground and picnic area. Debate arose over providing a new camping site, and some feared the camp attracted undesirable travelers. The meeting also discussed a proposed community hospital, including funding targets and location concerns, with officials from Dr. Aschenbrenner’s plan and others voicing support before referring the hospital proposal to a committee for further action.
