In Zuidwolde on 22 April 1946 a Dutch family expresses deep gratitude for stockings cloth cocoa and other items sent by Mrs Vander Syde. They note liberation from Nazis a year earlier thanks to Canadians and send prayers for her country. The letter mentions the husband in India likely Indonesia and hopes for his safe return.
Iowa communities accelerate food conservation to aid relief shipments abroad. Director R K Bliss of the Iowa Agricultural Extension Service outlines a six point plan: reduce flour production for domestic use, limit wheat in domestic products, cap wheat inventory at 21 days, boost corn sales to the Commodity Credit Corporation with a 30 cent bonus, pay similar bonuses for wheat sold for shipment abroad, and government purchases of oatmeal to supplement relief feeding. The measures seek to secure food for foreign relief and require local and state support.
Miss Franks leads Cadets as she organizes the high school marching band for spring sessions. The senior band will begin marching later. the unit plays today for the Tulip Time auction, substituting for the regular event. This Sunday they continue with scheduled activities.
Pella and many school bands travel to Knoxville to perform at the Veterans Hospital in the afternoon. Cadet band rehearsals start at 8 am while the high school band meets in the evening. Summer classes introduce beginner and sectional instruction thanks to newly available instruments.

Sept C C Buerkens hires two new teachers for next year's intermediate and primary grades. Miss Nellie Dikkenburg and Miss Esther Van Arkel, both former Central College attendees, join the staff. Buerkens also visited Ames to review teacher applicants and notes a need for a new home economics instructor as Miss Anderson departs.
The senior class has chosen Rev R J Vanden Berg to deliver the baccalaureate address on Sunday evening May 19 at the First Reformed church.
The Junior Senior Banquet at Second Reformed church featured a Southern Plantation theme with belled decors and a colonial porch. Students in crepe paper dresses served a three course meal as speeches by Gordon Nesbit Ruth Vogelaar and John Hesselink followed a guest talk by Mr Jack Bootsma on pursuing ideas. The Dixie Doodlers performed and Colleen Renaud received roses for service while seniors were invited to a show afterwards.

The baseball team debuted in green and white uniforms, and junior high students took standard arithmetic tests on May 1 to gauge progress. A west-side maple tree is dying. revive efforts use water pressure and a borrowed nursery device to save it.

John Lunstrum of Britt created a makeshift warm sleeping space for his newborn by warming a popcorn machine to about 80 degrees. The baby cried until placed in the heated chamber and immediately quieted.
A long list of visitors called on residents at the Home for the Aged including Dick Veldhuizen, Bertha Geenen, Runia of Sully, Arie of Lynnville, and Mrs. Peter Bandstra among many others. Also noted is a birthday remembrance for Mrs. Peter Lubberden who turned 68 on May 7.
