At the Central College Women’s Auxiliary annual meeting in Jordan Hall, Vice President Glenn Meerdink urged planning for growth. He noted Iowa higher education enrollments could rise from 50,000 to 85,000 by 1970, and Central College may need to double its enrollment by 1970 or 1975 for orderly growth. Housing is identified as an immediate need, contingent on federal approval.
Mrs Jake De Haan was elected president with Mrs Dan Bergman as vice president. Re-elected were Mrs Elizabeth Grand secretary and Mrs Martha Jautenbach treasurer. Raymond Poll of near Andrew reported a freak pig with one head and two bodies found in his litter. the creature died shortly after birth.
Mrs Douglas Ross of Manchester recently displayed a varé flower on her broad leaved philodendron plant. Such plants rarely live long enough in this climate to produce blooms. It resembles a jack in the pulpit.
Richard I. Timmins has been named a Fellow of the American Association of Fund Raising Counsels at Teachers College Columbia University New York for a second straight year. The fellowship, first awarded 1960 61, is shared by another recipient. Timmins is invited into Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society and Phi Delta Kappa. He pursues a doctorate in Educational Administration and previously directed public relations at Central College before joining Columbia.
A garden note describes Goldie West from Moravia placing soil inside a can and a begel plant forming a tomato plant. It later bloomed yielding three tomatoes on a vine about 20 inches high. The largest tomato is almost 5 inches in circumference.
