Douwstra Chapel Dedicated at Central College in 1940
The dedication of Douwstra Chapel marks a milestone for Central College as students and faculty worship there since 1939. Groundbreaking occurred May 30, 1989, with Rev. Irwin J. Lubbers presiding and Rev. John A. Dykstra delivering the sermon. The Pella Blade reports Central University held its first Field Day on a hot afternoon. Judges K Beard, Dr Allen, and J L Buckman oversaw events. Fred Lankelma won the silver cup for the overall champion after mastering sprints, jumps, throws, and hurdles.

The Central College program funds education for about 100 students through the student industries. Dean Graves and Maynard Smith highlight the plan as a path to cover tuition and gain practical skills.
