The Princess Theatre in Southeastern Iowa will open Sundays and offer sound pictures after a new seven day lease with Manager Holt. The city council renewed the lease for three years, boosting rent but keeping civic-use provisions, mirroring the old agreement.
John Legg, after more than fifty years of marriage, says he would rather spend a few days in jail than continue house cleaning chores. He spoke while returning from town with painting supplies, describing the spring repairs at the Legg home and noting the fourth trip to town that morning.
Mrs May Swink of near Montezuma died last Saturday night in an auto accident on her way home from a public dance. The Grinnell Register reports the event and notes she resided near Montezuma with her husband for many years.
Clifford Davis, 21, son of R. T. Davis of near Hamilton, was seriously injured by a dynamite blast at the Golden Goose mine shale pit near Hamilton Wednesday around noon. He was treated at Dr. Stafford’s and transported to Ottumwa General Hospital. full extent of injuries not yet known.
The report notes juries are unknown and the exact sequence of the shale pile blast may never be known. It states a man prepared two charges of four sticks each, placed on either side of the pile, one exploded while he worked to light the other.
Ottumwa residents were treated to a flight over and around town by red Eagle Rock biplane piloted by Clifford Kyser, a transport pilot and Ottumwa Legion Airport manager. He carried Harold Minor, student, and offered rides at one cent per pound, with over 12 passengers already flown. Kyser, with 1500 hours and an airplane mechanic license, plans more summer activity from the airport, including cross country trips in a Cessna cabin monoplane to cities like St. Louis, Minneapolis and Detroit.
John Homerine aged 21 son of Joe Homerine of Albia was electrocuted in Peoria Illinois while in a wire factory. Death was instant after contact with a high tension wire. He is survived by his father two brothers and one sister. Funeral services expected at St Marys Catholic church Saturday morning.

The Keokuk County News reports a string of family tragedies beginning two years ago in the Thomas family of five. A daughter, Mrs. Charles Stoner, underwent surgery in Kansas City while another daughter, Cage, faced operations. Previously, the family experienced little illness.
H E Redfield was arrested in Bloomfield Iowa after showing sound pictures at the Iowa Theatre on Sunday for violating state law by operating a Sunday business. He pleaded not guilty and requested a change of venue to Justice Baumgarten. Trial set for May 1 at 9 am in the Bloomfield courthouse with County Attorney Schlegel for the state and Buell McCash for Redfield.
A two cent stamp commemorating the Massachusetts Bay Colony founding in 1630 has been issued but not yet received at the Pella post office. The design mirrors the standard two cent stamp with United States Postage atop, Massachusetts Bay Colony in a semi circular panel, acanthus leaf brackets, two dark oval numerals 2 in the corners, and a colonial seal showing an Indian with a bow and arrow flanked by pine trees with 1630 and 1930.
Newton reports K F Wilson editor of the Monroe County Mirror will run as a Democrat for state representative. Ralph Smith a farmer and grange member was proposed but declined due to business reasons.
At the Orpheum Theatre Des Moines Laugh Week features a hilariously bent beauty show judging legs for Her Golden Calf with Carol Jack Mulhall I Brandel Marjorie White and others. The program includes vaudeville numbers The Big Parade and a harmonica act The Book and His Harmonica plus a Greenwich Village backdrop and a cast of 100 models.
The week's offerings feature the film Beau Bandit with Rod La Rocque and Doris Kenyon noted for outdoor scenery and a border western tale. Clark Morell Ruben Beckwith and the comedy duo Howard Kane Corel Ellis also appear with lively vaudeville acts led by Songsters De Luxe and Yates Lawley.
