Unique Gadget Causes Repeated Light Plant Trouble
Citizens recall months of electricity interruptions at the light plant caused by metal fragments in coal. Formerly removed at the mine, metal pieces like track spikes and drill tools later entered the plant after coal crushing and storage equipment was installed, leading to ongoing failures.
Magnet Device Installed To Remove Metal From Coal
The light plant committee and plant engineers devised a plan after a metal piece caused a coal flow stop. An electro magnet on the silo bottom and a magnetic drum powered by a DC generator will catch and hold metal up to 16 pounds as crushed coal moves to stoker bins.
