Legislators May Change Method of Naming Assessor

Des Moines reports an amendment to the new county law to shift how the county assessor is chosen. The chief assessor would be selected by a panel of tax-levying officials including the county board of supervisors and the city mayors. The lifetime tenure may be replaced with a fixed term, likely four to six years, to keep the office free of partisan politics. Rouze Hunter, current chief deputy, finds both proposals fair and commendable. The Hall Appraisal Co. delivered filing cards showing 1,884 parcels in Pella and 2,112 in Knoxville, with numerous dwellings and commercial properties noted for reference in the county assessor's records.
