Harry Van Gordon Fatal Auto Accident
Harry Van Gordon 37 of Emmetsburg died after a car crashed into a concrete signal island at a Fort Dodge railroad crossing on the Fort Dodge Des Moines route. He was removed from the burning vehicle by passing motorists and died Sunday after being hospitalized. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Cole Van Gordon who were visiting relatives at the time of the wreck.

Fire Interferes With Phone Service
A fire at the Henry Hammond garage Tuesday evening damaged about twenty four feet of cable and knocked out roughly one hundred city phones and about fifty rural lines for the Jews United Telephone Co. Linemen worked overnight and by Wednesday noon all services were restored.

Farmer Charles Adair found dead in chair at home
Charles Adair, 61, a prominent Avery community resident in Pleasant township, was found dead in a chair at his home early Friday. Dr. C. N. Hyatt said death was due to heart failure. Mrs. Adair discovered the body after Mr. Adair had risen about midnight noting heart troubles.

Fireman suffers broken leg during Monday incident
Paul Stump, a volunteer firefighter, broke his leg when he was tangled in a hose while backing the pumper to a hydrant at 120 K Avenue West. The pumper wheel rolled over his leg just above the knee. Fire chief Marion Whitmore slipped through a roof hole but escaped injury.

Wrestling causes serious injury at West Main hamburger stand
Dwight Hyatt of Albis suffered a severe cut to his right wrist during a wrestling incident at the West Main street hamburger stand last Friday evening. Monroe Sees Over Year With No Fire Damage

James Wolcott proprietor of the Wolcott Meat Market nearly died Sunday morning after a faulty gas mask failed. He opened the market, detected fumes from the ammonia plant, borrowed a WWII gas mask from Leo Sweeney, and returned to the refrigerating unit where the head blew from the ammonia tank. He inhaled the gas and collapsed. John Dykstra led a rescue party to locate him.
