Local Health and Visit Notes From Oskaloosa Area

Wilbur Vander Kamp of Sully entered Mahaska Hospital for major surgery Friday with operation performed Saturday morning. Peter De Hammer of Route 3 entered Mahaska Hospital Friday for hernia relief. Jacob Swanken entered Mercy Hospital Oskaloosa Thursday evening for major surgery Friday morning. Marvin Dingeman was released from the Navy in Minneapolis and returned home. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Schakel of Ames visited in the homes of Mrs. P. Schakel and George Ver Steeg. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hill of Kellogg stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bortje Friday to Sunday. Kloosterman family moved from northwest of Pella to a house on East Third Street Friday.

Warrick Bros led the Duroc Hog World with a sale of 60 bred gilts last Friday, averaging 286.41 and marking the season’s high national Duroc sale. Buyers included Duroc breeders from Town, Illinois, Minnesota and Missouri, with two exceptions. The top price, 680.00, was paid by Wm Urban and Sons of Prophetstown, Illinois. The first forty head averaged 303.62.
