Americans Gave 9 1/2 Million for China Aid in 1944
Leona Vander Linden of United China Relief announced that American donors sent more than 9.5 million dollars to aid the people of China in 1944. The figure marks an increase of 12,586 15 over 1942, bringing total contributions since 1941 to 27 7. United China Relief has been a National War Fund member since June 1943. The funds, managed by participating agencies in China, supported aid to orphans, child welfare, hospitals, schools, refugee relief, cooperatives, transportation of drugs and medical supplies, and medical worker training. Dr James J McConaughy, UCR president, said the aid saves lives and strengthens Sino-American ties as China nears its ninth year of war, with continued need for aid and cooperation to build a better world. The National War Fund allocated an additional one million dollars for emergency aid in 1944.
