The Marion County Board meets to approve financial transfers and staff salaries, designate official county papers, and authorize emergency fund usage. Items include shifts in county salaries, purchasing authorizations, and appointing official newspapers for notices.
Mrs. Charlotte Klyn of Pella has been engaged by the college for this semester. Sixty freshmen registered for the course, divided into three sections meeting individually. Klyn previously taught at Emmetsburg Junior College in Iowa for two years and holds a Simpson College degree with a Master’s from the University of Iowa.
Des Moines OPA district head D Kline says farm slaughtered meat must carry points when sold or given away and turned in to the local War Price and Rationing Board. Farm Slaughterers report sales or gifts on Farm R-1509. forms available at local board offices. Commercial slaughters also turn over monthly points with meat sales. noncompliance harms the rationing program.
A public safety note urges rural pedestrians to wear white or carry a light to improve visibility. The guidance emphasizes staying seen by drivers after dark to reduce crossing risks and improve safety on rural roads.
The general index of prices received by Iowa farmers rose one point to 185, from the 110-14 base period. Meat animals and crops gained two points, to 200 and 181 respectively, while poultry products fell from 205 to 19 due to egg price seasonals. Feeding ratios slipped for dairy feed and egg-poultry feed as hog prices neared ceilings. corn hog ratio rose to 14.6. Electric lights alone won’t boost production without adequate feed and water.
