Opening of Municipal Swimming Pool Draws Big Crowd

Goodwin Named Treasurer of Golf And Country Club

Prof G J Decker Dies of Heart Ailment in Chicago
G J Decker an associate professor of social science on Central College faculty died of a heart attack in Chicago Thursday evening June 12 while giving a banquet speech in his honor at Christian High. A Denver native and son of the Reformed Church there, he had taught at Christian High School in Chicago and was about to finish his prepared poem when he felt unwell. Central College notes his deep commitment to Christian education and mourns the loss of this young man who had identified himself with the college through his interests.

Des Moines River floods to record heights after heavy rains
Des Moines Valley endured a second flood surge as upper Des Moines River rose to record levels following Thursday rain. Five and a half inches fell in Des Moines and nearly six in Van Meter. Floodwaters forced evacuations of bottomlands while Pella faced power outages and dry faucets. Crews shut down Howell station to protect meters and wiring until pumps could be rewired.
