Quadruplet calves born on Roorda farm draw crowd near Fairmount

On May 2 on the Robere Roorda farm west of Fairmount, four calves, two males and two females, were born to a cow that struggled with milk. Neighbors and a local veterinarian attended a lively party as the family described the rare birth. The Roordas rent a 157 acre farm with modern facilities and rotations keeping soil fertile. Edward and Rob Roorda run nearby operations, including cattle and hogs. Carolyn Roorda studies Home Economics, Elmer oversees a flock of sheep, and Mrs. Roorda participates in a farm bureau group under Extension Service. The farm lies in Maines Township, Jasper County, with Mahaska County election notices following.
