Heat Records Keep Up Over Week
Last week residents in this area and surrounding communities faced unusually warm weather with Saturday and Sunday reaching 100 degrees or more. A calm breeze and sun dominated until Monday when rain arrived, ending a dry spell and easing soil hardness. Farmers welcomed the rain as drought threatened crops, though it was not enough to prevent some corn losses. The week returned to below normal temperatures, but harvest progress continued with hopeful prospects for a bumper crop if rains stay light.
