Butts recalls pioneer logs and early roads in Marion County
A visit by A Butts, former Marion County board member and Democratic candidate, recalls early pioneer life. He notes the first log houses moved along hewn logs, no undertakers, pine caskets, and interments done by families. Roads were pig paths, many Dutch neighbors, threshing by hand, and records kept of farm yields. People walked vast distances due to limited transport and horse use.
