Albert Van Zante Farm 490 Acres in Town and Country Visit
The Chronicle visits Albert Van Zante on a 490 acre farm near the river with 150 acres in pasture and the rest cultivated. Cattle graze annually, corn is the largest crop at 381 acres though reduced by a government plan. The Van Zante family, eight in all, has deep ties to Pella and Prairie City. Indians once camped on the site, with arrow heads found. Machinery includes binders and a motor for marshy ground, and the farm hosts 25 horses and colts including a pony that bore six, five still present.

Chicago couple’s missionary dream cut short by tragedy
Months ago in Chicago the Shannon family prepared at Moody Bible Institute for missionary work abroad where Clyde Shannon’s brother also served in Africa. Mrs. Shannon left behind two young daughters Esther Ruth and Naomi Carolyn as relatives care for them. The husband and family grieve a sudden loss while plans to depart soon on foreign soil fade.

Ray Vande Kieft, John Vanden Berg and Will Jansen were Saturday night visitors at the John Vanden Berg home with Mrs J Aldert and child.

Mrs Frank Tilma aged 81 died after a few days illness at the Home For the Aged last Thursday at 1 10 pm Funeral services were held at the Home on Saturday at 2 00 pm Rev Martin Monsma officiating and burial followed at Graceland Born in the Netherlands she came to the United States at 26 She was survived by two daughters Mrs Gerrit De Jong of Otley and Mrs Gerrit Van Dyk of Peoria Her husband died in 1931 after they had lived in Otley for more than a decade

Highway 63 Detoured North to Scarsboro Corner
New Sharon Star reports Highway 63 from New Sharon to Montezuma is detoured north to Scarsboro corner via highway 146 then east into Montezuma. Detour lasts until new pavement opens later in the summer. Grading crews prepare the gravel stretch and improve several bad corners. Culvert and paving crews set up headquarters in New Sharon park.
