Eight Theological Students Work With Severely Handicapped Children
Eight Seabury-Western Theological seminary students spend summers at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City assisting at the Hospital School for Severely Handicapped Children and the Psychopathic hospital. Led by Rev. Francis W. Voelcker the group aims to blend medical and spiritual care, teaching ministers how to respect, draw out, and persist with those they serve. The program, first of its kind in the Midwest, runs June 1980 through late August, with assignments at the Hospital School through July 31 and the Psychopathic hospital afterward, emphasizing parent education and team-based wholeness.
