Dutch Paradoxes in Freedom Curiosity and Realism
The essay argues that Dutch freedom invites curiosity about others, yet curiosity harms liberty. It notes Dutch materialism stems from order, not greed, and describes the Frisian temperament as central to the Dutch soul. It contrasts realism with dreaminess, sensitivity with rudeness, and self denial with self indulgence, framing a world of Jan Steen versus Calvin.
