Hogs Need Shade From Summer Heat With Simple Shelters
Agricultural engineer C H Van Vlack of Town State College advises movable temporary hog shade to stay comfortable and grow during heat. Build open frame from posts and poles, cover with brush or straw, add woven wire if straw used, weather wind and rain. Shelter sized for 8 to 10 hogs, 3 to 4 feet high, open on sides to allow breeze and minimize disease risk.
