Mrs H P Vandermeulen led a breakfast honoring Mrs Carrie Halbert for tireless service to the Auxiliary aiding the Synod. The Executive Board gave Halbert a wrist watch and chains, while gifting Vandermeulen a pearl necklace for her Dormitory work.
Emma Horvat, now mayor of Iowa City, declares war on mashers. Harry Mahanna, 19, a Chicago salesman, was the first on the list. He allegedly flirted on a streetcar and, according to Miss Mary Marr, treated her roughly, leading to a ten day jail term.
The City Council of Pella Iowa met July 5 1922 with most members present. Reports showed June fines 69.15 license 66.25 and treasury balance 50536.44. Library trustees C N Cole Jessie Sadler and Katherine Rhynsburger were reappointed. An alley in block 37 was ordered brought to grade. A long payroll list and various fund expenditures were approved. Price McCormack engineers to handle paving project contracted. council adjourned.
The Iowa State Fair will host a mid summer Farm Bureau gathering on August 28 with national speakers and county leaders to discuss farming in 1922 23 and the year ahead. A free 80 acre Farm Bureau camping tract adjoining the fair will be set aside for county group use and separate space reserved for county agents. The fair runs August 23 to September 1 as plans outline cattle and exhibits attracting farmers from across the state. Miss Inez Younkin of Pella visited Harvey over the weekend.
Official statement lists numerous claimants and purposes from Vander Linden Drug Store to J B Roovaart noting total allowances by the Pella Independent District School Board for July 1 1921 to June 30 1922. Names include Vander Linden Van Maren Vander Beek Klein De Winter Gosselink City of Pella Century Company Warwick York Frush De Pree Ziegler Vander Linden and many teachers and janitors with salaries and supplies. The document is sworn by Peter Van Sittthrt acting secretary, July 3 1922 before J B Roovaart notary.
