President appoints committees and adjourns meeting
The president announced committee appointments for the coming year and thanked members for their vote of confidence. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned and refreshments were served in the dining hall. Mrs Mortimer Goodwin and Mrs Clarence Vander Linden hosted the Bridge Club breakfast last Friday at Mrs Vander Linden’s home.

Iowa Banks Made 270000 Loans in 1940 Second Half
During the July to December 1940 period, 196 Iowa banks reported making 270000 loans totaling 183000000 to businesses and individuals. The semi annual survey by the American Bankers Association’s Research Council included 80.2 percent of Iowa banks.

Open loan and mortgage activity in state banks report
The survey shows 175,599 new loans totaling 109,030,435 and 91,760 renewals totaling 66,284,781, plus 2,669 new mortgage loans totaling 7,700,165, a combined 270,028 loans totaling 183,115,381. Banks carried 2,578,460 in open lines of credit with 12,473,916 used. Average per bank: 896 new loans, 468 renewals, 722 dollar per renewal, and 14 new mortgages averaging 2,885.
