Letter to The Voice of the Public on Townsend Plan merits
A reader from New York critiques Walter Lippman’s January 6 article on the Townsend Plan. He argues 20 billion cost and 7 percent tax figures are wrong and advocates lowering pensions, balancing production, and expanding consumption. He supports some Townsend ideas, proposing a $200 pension with a modest sales tax to fund it.
