Cost Cutting Production Methods Boost Yields Per Acre
Purdue University economists link high yield per acre to lower costs per bushel across corn, wheat, soybeans, hay, and pasture. In a 134-farm Indiana survey, top yielders earned far higher net income, with corn twice, wheat eleven times, hay three times, and soybeans seven times per acre versus lower yielders. The Middle West Soil Improvement Committee urges balanced fertilizer and deep-rooted legume rotations to lift yields and profits despite rising costs. The report notes that better yields improve profitability even as prices fall.
