Arrangements for a large teachers convention are nearly complete in Washington Iowa. About 1000 teachers will attend with lodging and board available at private homes and hotels. Round trip fare from Iowa points with half fare conditions, and a 50 cent membership fee grants admission to lectures. The program features addresses by A R Dewey and George E Vincent, round tables on primary to college, music teachers, and a series of sessions through Friday and Saturday with notable speakers and a keynote by Dr Carl Swenson. Boards urged to send teachers and superintendent participation strongly encouraged.
Ziska the master of legerdemain headlines a Saturday program at the opera house on March 1 featuring Shinda Hula and the floating Lady. Starring Ste Orra Rosa belle Travis and Lady Winslow, the show includes The Garnelles and Polyscope moving pictures including McKinley funeral scenes. Prices are 25 35 and 50 cents.
Amanda Perry Dennis aged 54 died at her home last Wednesday at 1:40 pm after a cancer illness. Born September 2, 1847 in Bartleyville Morris New Jersey she married Eugene Dennis July 4, 1865 and moved to Lake Prairie in 1868 then to Pella three years ago. Eight children were born. six survive. Funeral held February 21 at M E church officiated by Rev Pugh. Interred Oakland cemetery. Community extends sympathy to the bereaved family.
The Sewerage Committee reviews a proposed sewer line from Main and Union to the city limits. They estimate a 12 inch vitrified tile sewer would cost about $2000, based on other towns with installed systems. The figure includes manholes but excludes the cost of laying branches to the main sewer.

Last Saturday Dr Ruth of Keokuk operated on John Grandin. The gall bladder was blocked and in poor condition. Doctors express hope for recovery but patient remains in bad condition.

Mat Hunter was sentenced to life in prison by the jury last Friday morning. He turned pale and reeled as the sentence was pronounced, nearly falling before reaching a table to steady himself.
The next attraction at the opera house on Friday February 28 is New Fogg's Ferry a revised comedy first produced by Minne Maddern at the Park Theatre New York in 1882. It has remained popular for its wholesome story strong characters and humor. The show features Iola Pomeroy a fine cast a sterling quartet skilled dancers and nearly twenty artists in a large traveling company. Seats are on sale at the usual place.

He arrives in Pella on the 27th and will address crowds at the First Christian Reformed Church before a collection for South Africa widows and orphans.
