Personal development theme at Marion County 4-H Senior Camp
The Marion County 4-H Senior Camp held February 12 and 13 at the State 4H Camping Center near Madrid focused on personal development. Seventy-one 4-H members and counselors participated in a two day program led by county 4-H officers. A skit titled Door acted by campers explored developing honesty and current teen fads. County officers led a recreation training session and campers conducted their own worship service Sunday. The social highlight was a Saturday party amid winter hiking on the 600 acre site beside the Des Moines River. Counselors included Mrs. Dean Van de Kamp Martha Templeton Ruth Archibald.

Colfax Sale A Large Crowd Active Market For Cattle
The Colfax sale drew a large crowd with strong demand. Prices ranged for steer and bull calves from 28.00 to 38.50 per cwt, heifer calves 25.00 to 27.25, yearling steers 24.00 to 27.20, Holstein steers 19.00 to 22.00, feeder heifers 21.00 to 24.25, fed heifers up to 26.00, bulls to feeders 25.50, and young calves 20.00 to 43.00 per head. Cows sold 16.00 to 18.00 for packer cows, shelly cows 13.00 to 16.00, packer bulls 18.00 to 20.70, with common replacements higher. Hog and sheep sale scheduled for Saturday.
Marion County ASC Allows Soybeans on Feed Grain Acreage
Russell E. Crozier, Chairman, announced the county office received word that soybeans can be grown on permitted feed grain acreage under the 1966 program without loss of price support payments. Farmers may designate soybean acreage as corn, barley, or grain sorghum for eligibility, while existing rules for discision payments remain unchanged.

Rock Island District Awards Drill Contract for Flood Projects
The Rock Island District Corps of Engineers awarded the apparent low bid from Rock Island Western Co of Ames for exploratory drilling for flood protection projects. A second bid from Dikor Division of Servicor Inc of Carmi, Illinois was $35,400. Drilling will occur under Corps supervision at Red Rock Reservoir and Saylorville Reservoir areas. Work starts by February 23, 1966 and ends by December 31, 1966 if weather permits.
