Coal Ridge News Notes From a Turbulent Week
Reports from the Coal Ridge area describe a measles siege in the D. L. Penland family and a small kitchen roof blaze at W. M. Adams that was quickly checked. Church meetings continue, finance pledges secure another year for Pastor Beard, and neighbors relocate as Joe and John Meskmna plan a March move to a farm near Red Rock. Ralph Colclasure and son Ralph recover from grippe with Ed’s return, while Nellie Mitchell’s illness in Harvey prompted a swift trip by A P Dickey, though she improves later.

Golden State Limited Narrowly Halts on Bridge
The Golden State Limited with Rock Island cars narrowly escaped a deadly derailment on the Davenport bridge over the Mississippi River. The train buckled onto steel girders as it crossed, several coaches leaning but the girders held, keeping the engine and most cars from leaving the rails. The mishap halted the service, with only the last coach derailed, as the bridge’s integrity prevented a catastrophe.
