He also pushed for a $9.5 million request to continue work on the Red Rock Dam and Reservoir project as part of the fiscal year 1967 federal budget sent to Congress by President Johnson. Bandstra said the funds are needed so work on these projects can continue.
Congress approves budget requests in full for two large dam projects. Rathbun Dam on the Chariton River north of Centerville will create an 11,000 acre reservoir spanning Appanoose Monroe Wayne and Lucas counties. Red Rock Dam on the Des Moines River between Knoxville and Pella will form a 9,000 acre upstream reservoir.
