Office and Factory Ready for Christmas Festivities

Demand for Skilled Workers for Iowa's Industries Is Strong

Des Moines reports continued demand for skilled industrial workers in November as Iowa's employment service struggled to fill openings. Of 12,660 applicants, 4,742 were women. 2,114 jobs remained unfilled by December 1. Overall placements reached 8,150 in November, with women accounting for 2,030 and 796 going to farms. Holiday hiring boosted wholesale and retail by 2,004, manufacturing by 1,840, and food processing by 571.
