In southeastern Iowa Knoxville a woman claiming to be Woods was detained after checks given to Knoxville merchants failed to clear. Deputy Sheriff Grundman alerted Des Moines authorities to monitor the bus to the city. The woman surrendered on arrival. The incident yielded no clear action yet.
Garrett Strovers of Kellogg suffered severe injuries in an unusual accident near Per cy's oil station on highway 82. While his son Frank drove a sedan towing a buzz saw on a trailer, Mr. Strovers attempted to jump as the tow chain loosened. His foot became caught in a wheel, the trailer tipped into a ditch, and the saw toppled onto him.
An old health note lists ideal weights by height from 4 ft 11 in to 5 ft 10 in and urges readers to weigh daily. It prescribes cutting treats for four weeks, avoiding potatoes rice butter cream and sugar, and taking half a teaspoon of Kruschen Salts each morning before breakfast. The ad promotes The Ideal Pharmacy selling Kruschen Salts for 85 cents, claiming quick fat loss and vitality in four weeks.
Burton Kaufman, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Kaufman of Joy Illinois, and grandson of Mrs. A. H. Parson of this city, died at St. Anthony's hospital after a can of gasoline exploded while he lit a match to kindling. He had returned from the Dwight Morrow home where he worked and, finding the house cold, poured what he thought was kerosene on the fire. The blast burned his clothing and body. he rolled on the floor but could not extinguish the flames. He went to a neighbor's house, but the fire had consumed his clothes and burned his body except for his shoes. He received medical aid and died several hours later.
Jerry Ott two year old son of Mr and Mrs Clifford Ott died Friday morning from creselene eaten after it was used for fumigation in the home. He was born November 27 1928 in Oskaloosa Iowa and died November 28 1930 at 810 Second Avenue East. He leaves parents two brothers Ervin 11 James Corwin 9 and a sister Mary Rose three. Funeral services were held November 30 at Cheesman Funeral Home with Rev. M H Williams in charge. Burial followed in Forest cemetery.
A Jersey heifer calf born November 6 at the Raymond Craven farm north of Dallas displays extreme deformities. It has a bulldog-like head, goat body, walks backward, snubbed nose, undershot jaw, partial blindness, and limited standing ability. The Craven calf, fed by bottle, has been offered to the Melcher American Legion for sale to carnival firms, though interest is slim.

A petition signed by fifty-one Chariton businessmen asked the city council to revoke licenses allowing fruit, grocery, or vegetable sales from trucks or wagons on city streets. Mayor Reibel was authorized to investigate and pursue license revocation. The mayor began the inquiry Tuesday with no revocations yet. A long list of claims was approved for December council consideration.
The barn on Merrill Van Gilder’s farm seven miles northeast of Prairie City burned Saturday morning. The local siren sounded at 10 30, fire crews arrived too late to save the barn. Livestock was saved but hay, a binder, and small machinery burned. the old Greenleaf place is owned by Frank Clymer. Insurance status unknown.
Davis County Republicans report a Thursday morning crash near Ottumwa involving Pulaski residents Nial Prevo and Millard Naxted along with Mr and Mrs Harry Matthews. A tire blowout caused the driver to lose control and the car left the road into a ditch. Naxted was severely injured and taken to St Joseph's hospital in Ottumwa. the others escaped injury, but the vehicle burned.
Miss Juliette Peverill a Drake student injured in a homecoming crash near Iowa City is in Rochester Minnesota undergoing facial surgery. Her condition remains serious but hopeful as doctors work to heal her badly hurt face and stabilize her in hospital care.

Thomas M Lorimer 70 a prominent Knoxville farmer died at Mater hospital after two weeks of heart trouble and dropsy. Born November 1850 near Durham he lived in Marion County most of his life and later moved to farm northeast of Knoxville. Survived by two children Loren and Mabel eight grandchildren and several half siblings.
Brothers and half-sisters, among them Mrs. 8. C. McMillan of Durham, are noted as she makes her home for the winter in Burlington, a detail reflecting family arrangements and seasonal relocation.
Mrs. R. M. Gailey of Rexfield was painfully but not seriously hurt when a stray shot from an accidental shotgun discharge in the hands of Rexfield youth Louis Raymie lodged in her left leg above the ankle. She was walking about thirty feet in front of Raymie as he unloaded the gun when the trigger was tripped. The shell lodged in the bone and she was taken to Miner's hospital in Albia for a successful operation to remove it.
George Talbot, former Reasnor resident, died after a long illness at his daughter’s home in Sac City. He was about 84, born near Galesburg, married to Evelyn Earp. Survived by daughter Mrs. O R Finders and several nieces and nephews. brother-in-law to Mrs. John Tharp, Tom Earp, and Mrs. Harry Lust. Mrs. Talbot died six years ago.
Davis County Republican reports Battin and Cannady, owners of the Battin and Cannady Hardware Store on Bloomfield square, announce discontinuing business after the first of the year and launching a large closing out sale. The store has long been a leading hardware supplier in the city. Battin previously ran a north side shop with J. M. Krewson before taking over the current store.
