Local residents note visits and retirements in Pella area
Des Illinois resident Mrs. Richard Voskuil visited in Pella last Tuesday to see friend Mrs. Richard Savery while Mrs. John Weyers of Perry toured Pella Friday with Marvin Kooyman and Mrs. Weyers. Gerrit Zylstra celebrated her birthday on Friday November 30 with family. Local events include R A Vanderwal’s retirement after 35 years as Montezuma schools supt and Clyde McFarlin’s 30 years as board president. Sam Van Vliet tours Texas and Henry E. Wormhoudt plans Washington DC and East trips after holidays. Hoogenakkers move to Albert Lea with property sale to Max Schakel. Weekend visitors include Van Ryswyk and Vander Syde. Wanders heads to Phoenix after visiting in Kansas City. Wichhart and family accompany him. Pella attends educational television meeting in Chariton with Reut and Buerkens. John VanderWal attends Montezuma watch dedication as R A Vanderwal and McFarlin honored. Montezuma opens new high school addition with 1500 visitors. Vanderwal to be succeeded by Leland Thomson.

L A Brushes Honored on 50th Anniversary Mosaic
Mr and Mrs L A Brush longtime Lynnville residents now of Kirksville Missouri were honored for their golden wedding anniversary. The Lynnville Community Building hosted about 235 guests with sons Cleo and Dale Brush arranging the event. Attendants included Edith Cope Ver Steeg and Cheryl Brush, with many relatives from Iowa and Missouri in attendance. The couple, married December 4 1912 in New Sharon, have three sons and two granddaughters. They farmed near Lynnville before moving to Missouri 21 years ago where he operated a service station.

Obituary for John H Toom of Pella Community
Funeral services were held November 29, 1962 at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home for John Henry Toom 84 a lifetime resident of Pella. He was born October 11, 1878 and married Tillie De Wit March 22, 1900, with two children Marion and Mable. He farmed and later moved to Pella in 1936. survived by his children 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He died November 27 at the Pella Community Hospital.
