Thanksgiving Gatherings and Parish Elections Report
At a congregational meeting Gerrit A. De Jong and Lewis De Vries were elected elders with Harold Pethoven as deacon. Five months of summer evening services were approved with the budget. Thanksgiving offerings totaled 1307.15 dollars and the Christian High drive raised 907.50. Various local families hosted gatherings, and many residents shared gratitude for blessings, food, and community. A large social calendar included visits, dinners, hymn sings, and reflections on fortunes.

Monroe residents and visitors are featured in a collage of social happenings. Mrs H W Vriezelaar hosts coffee for new neighbor Mrs Robert Brown with local friends in attendance. Families and guests include the Turnbulls in Ames and several Iowa Falls or Newton visits, plus church and class gatherings.
Local church circle meeting and 4-H club notes
Mrs. Virgil Martin hosted the Westminster Circle at the Presbyterian church with Cora Birkenholz leading the lesson and John Dykstra guiding devotions. Eleven members attended and gifts were sent to the Tama Indians. Keith McConneghey and wife visited Marion Van Haaften at the Methodist Hospital. Janet Woody hosted the Happy Hearts 4-H Club with thirteen members three guests and leaders Gunnar Hjortshoj and Elmo Blackledge present. Kristy Vander Ploeg Janet Woody and Carol Hjortshoj spoke. Mary Livingston reported on the Jasper County 4-H banquet and Carnahan gave a 4-H demonstration. The December meeting and gift exchange will be at Carol Hjortshoj's home. Ray Shannon and wife left for Phoenix after the death of their daughter Mrs. George Benjamin of Altoona. Gerrit Dee of Tipton, Ohio, visiting relatives here. Kathryn Vriezelaar, Today Club president, opened the November 8 meeting at the Legion Hall and the club voted to sponsor a Christmas home decorating contest. A Christmas ideas program was given. Gwendolyn Waddle became treasurer succeeding Eleanor Donaldson, who moved away, and Grace Ainemouth led the refreshment committee.
