Prairie City couple wed at Christian Reformed Church
Linda Ann Steenhoek and Dick Bruxvoort wed July 27 at Prairie City Christian Reformed Church with 165 guests. Rev Theodore Wevers officiated a double ring ceremony. The bride wore lace and nylon tulle with a sequin bodice and carried a white Bible. Attendants included Eunice Ver Schuure as maid of honor and Bill Bruxvoort as best man. Reception followed in the church basement with a lavender and white theme and a four tier cake, then the couple planned a Colorado honeymoon and will reside at 515 1/2 Main Street, Pella. Linda is a Bankers Life employee in Des Moines. Dick works at Wormhoudt Furniture in Pella.

On Saturday July 15 Lin da Steenhoek of Prairie City was guest of honor at a miscellaneous bridal shower hosted by Mrs. Gerrit Bruxvoort. Co hosts were daughters Carolyn and Marilyn. Linda opened gifts around a bride doll table as lavender and white decor-led lunch was served.

Edith Elhart age 59 of Grand Rapids Michigan died July 29 1961 from a heart attack. She was the widow of Bernard Elhart and mother of Holly Huizenga Joan Rose and Theodore with brothers George William and John Stuarsma all in Grand Rapids. Funeral services were held August 2 in Grand Rapids.

The bride wore a Chantilly lace gown with chapel train and veil, carried red roses, and wore double pearl jewelry. Attendants included Janice Vink maid of honor and Janice Bruxvoort bridesmaid with Debby Rerig as flower girl. The groom’s party included Peter Bruxvoort and Gerald Fedders as groomsmen. Marci Jeltema was the pianist and H Woudstra the soloist. A reception followed in the church parlors with a blue and white floral theme. The couple will reside at 704 East 3rd Street in Pella.

Miss Baker Speaks at State Home Economics Meeting
Miss Baker, associate professor Mina Bakery of Central College, presented a paper on the sociological and economic arts of clothing at the Conference for Vocational Homemaking Teachers held August 24 at Iowa State University Ames. Dr. Carole Robinson, set to teach vocational homemaking in Pella this fall, also attended. Mr. and Mrs. C Morris of Oakland recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

Home Fire Blamed on Roasted Dinner Mishap Near Twin Springs
Leonard McCaffrey and family faced a house fire after a roast in the kitchen produced thick black smoke. Neighbors said flames were contained quickly as residents extinguished the blaze and aired out soot and lingering odor throughout the home near Twin Springs.
