Cofilinugh rise in cattle numbers eyed by Uhrig

Farm economist J William Uhrig of Iowa State University predicts cattle numbers will continue to increase this year with a potential rise in slaughter, possibly about 1 million head, to sustain larger supplies. Calf inventories rise reflects feeding industry trends and may push beef supplies higher in future. Sheep numbers have tightened, lamb crops fall four percent from 1961, and prices rebound as slaughter declines and withholding of lambs rises.
