Fonda Aleece Rooda born August 18 at Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa to Mr and Mrs Gerrit Rooda of Otley, mother Francene Westerkamp. other births noted include Ib 2 oz Branderhorst child and a daughter born to Mr and Mrs Gerrit Rooda. A Vander Kieft gathering was held at Mrs. Vander Kieft’s home near Otley on Saturday night honoring eight years since the family all met. Attendees included Leonard Vander Kieft of Des Moines, Dick Vander Kieft of Minnesota, Arnold Schippers of Monroe, Lambert Berg and son of Melcher, and Pete Van Zante and daughter. Joan Mira’s visit and refreshments followed. Mrs. Vander Kieft plans to move to Pella in early September, leaving the farm she has called home for 58 years. Nora Slocum and Doris Lee left Thursday to visit relatives.
Fiddle maker FIDDLE hi pursues a remarkable hobby of carving fiddles entirely by hand. Using any wood, every part except the strings is shaped by the creator, who estimates spending about 750 Rito to complete a single instrument.
Mrs Ani Hou and Sheryl along with Mrs Lilly Visscher were guests last Sunday afternoon. Marinus Stravers of Galesburg and Lester Vanena Tep families visited after church with their mother and grandmother, Mrs Marrie Uster markt and Hattie Van Gorp. Wm Vin Sant and others from Sully called on Nettie Geenen and at the Home for the Aged. Cobie Jansen of the Home for the Aged visited with Case Harthoorn’s family near Lynnville. Gary Vande Geest Jr and five children of East Moline Illinois returned from Denver and visited Gerrit Vande Geest Sr and Maggie Uster markt at the Home of the Aged.
Leu and ib in Iowa ce Program visits to Brandon and Waterloo will mark the third year of the Iowa Visiting Scientist Program. More than 300 Iowa scientists from colleges, universities and industries will participate by visiting 93 Iowa schools in the next three months. Scientists from Pella include Arthur Bosch, G Chester Leu, and Jack C Wilson, with expertise across aeronautics, biology, botany, chemistry, physics, engineering and more.
Visitors, at no charge to the local school, spoke with students and faculty. Portas led discussions alongside scientists from the State University of Iowa, emphasizing collaboration with the community and current science topics.
