Army Engineers To Restore Levees In Iowa District
The Rock Island District seeks bids to lease equipment for repairing three flood damaged levees along the Des Moines River between Oskaloosa and Knoxville Iowa. Bids open August twenty two at the Clock Tower Building Rock Island Illinois for Harvey Island Tracy Island and August twenty six for Belle Fountain. The work directed by district officials uses emergency U S Army Corps of Engineers funds to restore levees to pre flood condition.

They traveled about 400 miles by bus. Miss Carlene Van Zante of Reasner and Miss Margaret Gannon of Colfax won the Jasper County Queen of Conservation title at the Newton airport Field Day. Runner-up Lenora Van Zee of Sully received a locket. They advance to a regional event in Nevada Iowa August 9.

The Marion County Farm Bureau invites the public and members to an open house at their new highway 14 North building on Saturday August 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. The 28 by 48 foot one story structure includes a reception and meeting room and four private offices. Builders D W Ridnouer and Ben Mott completed the frame building. Building Committee members are Kenneth Woody chair Harold Walraven Jim Goff Don King Rex Hamilton and John Shilling.

County fair club workshop plans and cream puff demo
At the previous month’s regular meeting at Mrs. Raymond Van Steenis home the club held an all day workshop. Members worked on fair entry projects and Linda Stration and Erma Dahm demonstrated making cream puffs. They also discussed a camp-out at Lake Keothah.

Tractor accident injures Dale Erickson in Brayton
Dale Erickson, 13, of west Brayton, was injured when a tractor, after being started from a stopped position, caught his left hand in the fan. Four fingers were lacerated, the index finger broken, and the third finger nearly severed at the first joint.
