Viking Lake Named Iowa’s Newest Body of Water
A 150 acre impoundment in Montgomery County southeast of Stanton has been named Viking Lake. The Stanton Viking and local newspaper sponsored a naming contest with the winning submission noting the area’s early settlement and honoring those who founded the community. Viking Lake State Park will cover 290 acres of water and woods and will offer boating swimming fishing and picnicking. The lake is not yet completed but should be filled by next summer.
