Limestone limestone law takes effect July thirty first
The Town agricultural limestone law, passed by the last session of the legislature, took effect July 31. The law, administered by the State Department of Agriculture, requires sellers to provide purchasers with a statement showing calcium carbonate equivalent and a screen purity test. Purchasers should note that finely ground, high testing limestone is most economical. W E L Pierre, head of agronomy at Iowa State College, says that 40 percent through a screen marks finely ground material, while some limestones run as high as 80 percent calcium carbonate equivalent and are satisfactory. The higher the calcium carbonate content, the greater the stone's value.
