Reservoir Plan Delayed Yet Aims to Alleviate Drought

Postponement discussed as city officials outline a concrete reservoir holding over 4 million gallons. Intended to ease summer water shortages and provide emergency supply, the project would be funded from receipts with no external financing.

City Begins Reservoir Project and Raises Water Rates

The city started a reservoir project on Howell road to boost storage and revenue. An ordinance increased water rates for lower brackets and changed water and sewer collections from quarterly to monthly. First 1000 gallons rose to 1.00, next 1000 to 0.60 per thousand, with higher tiers at 45, 35, and 25 cents per thousand above. Bills payable monthly by the 15th. Seward service charge rises with the water bill. City Clerk W L McNamar said the plan saves about 30000 by city labor and aims to finish in five to seven years, weather permitting.
