Sgt Vernon Bobbitt of the U S Army and former Central College art instructor is back on duty in Newfoundland after a 22 day furlough with his wife near New York. Mrs Bobbitt was Central College librarian. The Chronicle comments on the greeting and urges a longer note in future correspondence.
Harold WW Kn USNCIT Ward writes from a navy convalescent hospital in Yosemite Valley Calif describing a scenic retreat at four thousand feet elevation. He details hospital life ten hours a week work in a doctor's office a small nine hole course two tennis courts and nightly home talent shows at Camp Curry. He recalls viewing giant redwoods a road through one tree and tame deer while hoping for an end to conflict and sending regards to friends in Pella.
Irwin Jacob Io enters Midshipmen course on Notre Dame campus. After completing the four month program, Lubbers will be commissioned as a naval officer under US Navel training, with details tied to Captain J. Michard Barry.
Lieutenant Henry Huizenga spent two days with his mother Mrs. J Huizenga. He is stationed with the army at Las Vegas Nevada and serves as an instructor. He accompanied a contingent of soldiers to Chicago and secured a short delay. In route they stopped in Pella where Henry married Wilma Blaxe, formerly a teacher in the Pella Public schools. They have two children, a boy and a girl.

Several residents visited relatives in Sigourney, Rose Hill, Bussey, and Arlington. A business trip to Washington, Town by Van Zouk is listed along with other social gatherings and family visits throughout the area.
