Sharon Theatre Installs Talkie Machine For New Sharon

The Sharon Theatre in New Sharon installs a Talk-A-Phone machine to showcase first run films from Fox Pathe Universal Metro Goldwyn Paramount and others. Manager Elmo Hoffmen announced Crazy That Way as the opening week feature on April 11 and 12. The move marks a modernization in the town’s motion picture scene and Hoffmen is praised for keeping up with times. Stroke strikes visitor from church in Otley area

Mrs. John DeGoey a 59 year old visitor from Otley suffered a paralytic stroke Sunday evening while returning from Monroe Baptist church with her son Conrad Muilenberg. They were a mile east of Monroe when the incident occurred. she was treated at Monroe then transported by ambulance to Skiff Hospital in Newton.

Moulton Man Killed In Highway 32 Crash

Malcolm Underwood age 41 of Moulton was killed in an Interstate 32 collision nine miles east of Des Moines. He was driving east in a light roadster when he tried to pass a truck driven by W G Anderson of Bondurant. The truck door opened, the cars collided, and Underwood lost control, the roadster struck a transmission line pole guy wire and somersaulted. Anderson assisted After the crash.

Lovilia man held after coroner's jury findings

Andy Clair 27 Lovilia was held without charge after a coroner's jury said Harry Gowdy 24 miner died from being struck on the head by a bottle in Clair's hands. Gowdy died Wednesday and was buried today. Clair admitted a quarrel at a Lovilia restaurant and refused to disclose the fight's cause or whether he knew Gowdy before Tuesday night.

Cedric Peterson, resident pastor of Colfax Baptist Church and former preacher to President Coolidge, headlined the Junior Chamber of Commerce meeting on March 26 at the Hotel Maytag. The program featured Earl Parks on the concertina, readings by Robert Lizzard, and songs by Carroll Morrow and Elmer Watkins. Arthur Shepherd and Louie Edwards led the organizing committee as Peterson opened his remarks.

Dies in Office of Sigourney Chiro

John Lutz aged 48, longtime Keokuk county resident, died Friday afternoon in the waiting room of Dru Kruger chiropractic on the south side of the square. He lived with his brother George south of South English and had been troubled by an aortic aneurysm for nearly a year. Born near Keota in 1882, he never married and had spent much of his life in Keokuk county, with later years in Waterloo. The death occurred shortly after his 4:10 p.m. entry to the office, according to Dr. John Kray who attended.
